Oasis

Another poker variation from the Stud Poker family is Tropical Stud - also known as Tropical Stud Poker, Caribbean Stud or Oasis Stud. Tropical Stud is one of the most interesting versions of poker and is primarily offered in casinos. In contrast to other poker versions, the participants in this version do not play against each other, but individually against the bank.

Tropical Stud can thus be described as a two-person game. As with other poker versions, the goal is to achieve the highest possible card combination from the five cards each player (pointeur) receives. With regard to the playing field, a table with seven seats is played. Each player receives a so-called bet box. The game is led by a dealer (groupier). Before the start of the game, each player places his basic bet on the ANTE field and then receives five cards (including the dealer), the last of which is dealt face-up.

The minimum bet is usually €5 - the maximum is usually €200. However, base bets may vary from casino to casino. Once the cards have been dealt, each player looks at their hand as usual and decides whether they wish to continue playing. In this case, he bets twice his ante on the BET field. If a player folds, he has lost his ante.

When all players have made their decision, the dealer opens his cards. He must qualify to remain in the game. The dealer must have at least one ace and one king to open the game. If more than half of the games do not qualify, the casino will drop out and the game is over. The players then get their bet ante 1:1 back. The bet Bet is paid back. If the dealer qualifies, the banker calls and each hand is compared to the dealer's hand. If the dealer's hand is higher than the player's, the player loses bets on the ante and bet squares. If a player has a higher combination than the dealer, he wins. The payout takes place according to the combination table on the bet field. Ante is paid 1:1.

If the dealer and player have the same card combinations, the card values are decisive. In the event that the values of the cards are the same, there is a draw (STAND OFF) and the bets on the Ante and Bet squares are returned to the player. In Tropical Stud, you can also place a bonus bet on each game as an additional bet. This is called a progressive jackpot, the player places his bet on the so-called bonus bet ring. The bonus bet is aimed at achieving certain card combinations by the respective player.

The dealer's card combination has no bearing on the bonus bet. It is possible to buy one card per game. The price for the card is the amount of the ante. Other Tropical Stud rules include that players are not allowed to inform each other of their card values. Cards may also not be removed from the table surface. Determining an optimal strategy for Tropical Stud is extremely complicated.

Almost nobody has a complete command of this game in a strategic way. However, it is possible to identify some key advantages that the player and the bank can have. An advantage of the player is that due to the existing payout scheme he can at most lose his bet, but can win much higher sums from the bet. The opponent's strategy is clearly recognizable, as the bank may only play if it holds at least one Ace-King.

Furthermore, one of the opponent's cards is open and thus known. In addition to these indisputable advantages of the player over the bank, the bank of course also has an advantage, even if this is rather hidden. This lies in the fact that the player speaks first and the bank only acts afterwards. The bank advantage arising from it, the expectation value of the bank per set euro, amounts to 2.55%. The long-term goal of a player in Tropical Stud should therefore be to minimize this bank advantage as much as possible. For this there are some central procedures that should be followed. With a pair and a higher hand you should bet in any case. If you don't have a pair, but you have an ace and a king, you should make your decision subject to various rules. This looks a bit complicated at first.
